The older, but good looking, half of the Hooked on Websites partnership, I’ve been around fishing of various kinds for nearly fifty years.
My obsession started as a young lad in Norfolk. I always look back on those childhood days with real affection. Growing up in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, and only a short walk from the beaches of Great Yarmouth, I had a huge range of quality fishing at my doorstep. Bream and roach on the Rivers Yare, Thurne and Waveney. Perch on Oulton Broad, bream from Fritton Lake and pike from Rollesby, Ormesby, and Hickling. The sea fishing wasn’t half bad in those days either as the cod came in close after a good North Easterly. Many’s the mile I cycled with the rod tied to the “croggy” and the whicker basket swinging on my back.
After qualifying as a teacher, and getting married, I settled in Hull (East Yorkshire) and carp fishing entered my life, although other species still featured, with pike, roach and chub from the River Hull, and local ponds, plus sea fishing on the Holderness coast, from Spurn Point to Bridlington.
Then for a while the carp fishing took over, as I targeted the species almost exclusively. I also got involved in writing and the club side of fishing. Becoming a regional organiser for one of the largest carp organisations. Over the years I have been involved with fisheries development and management, and the design and production of tackle and bait.
A long time member of the ACA, Carp Society, ECHO, BCSG, these days I’m moving back to more general fishing, targeting big perch and pike, as well as the carp.
I love travelling for my fishing and have fished in Holland and France, as well as all over the UK. In recent years I have been involved with many magazines including Angling Times, Carp World, and Crafty Carper. I have been on Tight Lines TV(Sky Sports), and featured in Carp Crew 2 with Kev Green (Discovery Real Time TV).
One of the things I had said about me recently, was that I’m just as enthusiastic about my fishing now as I was years ago….. and it’s true. My involvement in fishing, and the continued enjoyment and excitement it brings will never fade, perhaps I can bring a little of that excitement and enthusiasm to your web-site.
